What is Perinatal Psychology?
The perinatal period refers to before, during, and after pregnancy; it includes transitions relating to planning, conception, pregnancy, birth, and post-partum.
Perinatal psychology is an area of psychology which focuses on supporting parents through the various mental and emotional challenges that can arise throughout this time.
Do I need a referral to make an appointment?
No, you don't need a referral to make an appointment. However, you will need a mental health care plan from your GP if you wish to claim the rebate from medicare. This allows eligible clients to receive a rebate for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.
Can I bring my baby to the appointment?
Of course! We look forward to meeting you and your baby. Our offices are easily accessible for prams, and we have plenty of toys and playmats to keep bub occupied while we chat.
What is your cancellation policy?
We understand that unexpected things pop up from time to time. Where possible, we ask that you provide at least 48 hours notice for a cancelled appointment. A cancellation fee applies for last-minute cancellations.
Where are you located?
Our office is located at 3/1 California Boulevard, Peregian Beach (within the Peregian Breeze estate). Telehealth appointments are also available.

Our preferred method of referral is via Medical Objects. You can also send referrals via email (info@nurtureperinatal.com.au) or fax (07 3041 3231).
What type of therapy do you do?
Our Clinical Psychologist Sarah Harriott is trained in numerous evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including EMDR, Schema therapy, Cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), and attachment-informed therapy.
What is EMDR?
Eye-movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an evidence-based therapy designed to alleviate distress associated with traumatic or painful memories. It can help your brain to process memories that have become "stuck", allowing it to naturally process and heal from these experiences. There is a large body of evidence supporting EMDR as an effective treatment modality for a number of mental health concerns including PTSD (including birth trauma), depression, anxiety, phobias, OCD, and adverse childhood experiences.
